The truth is, I don’t know who I’m writing to. It’s easier with the tech blog. I’ve kind of developed an audience. It’s a strange — and diverse — audience. And I don’t delude myself into believing that any of them read everything there. But some people check in once in a while, which is nice. I don’t really try to please them too much. It is my blog after all, and they can take it or leave it. But I keep them in mind when I’m writing. Often, I’ll have a single person in mind when writing a post. It’s great to know the audience is there, even if I can’t see them.
This is different. First of all, I don’t know yet what it’s about. I know there are some things over the last three years that I’ve wanted to blog about, but which don’t fit in an educational technology blog. There are also some things I’ve wanted to say that aren’t really related to my job. So it would have been inappropriate to put them on the other blog. This one’s more personal. This one’s more about me — the parts of me that don’t necessarily have much to do with education or technology.
So it’s political, but it’s not a political blog. And it’s about beer, but it’s not a beer blog. And I’ll probably write about music and family, but it’s not specifically about them, either. For now, it’s about whatever I have to say at the moment. And we’ll leave it at that until it gets a life of its own.
Who is the audience? Deep down, it can only really be one person. The rest of you are welcome to come along for the ride, though.
